Grey Highlands Gran Fondo starts and finishes in the town of Markdale. Routes meander through beautiful Grey Highlands passing through Walter’s Falls, Bognor, Meaford, Thornbury, and the picturesque Beaver Valley.
Our 26k route is family friendly, while the 77k and 122k routes will challenge intermediate and experienced riders. Conquer Scotch Mountain on the 77k. Climb Ward’s Hill on the 122k. All routes feature quiet rural roads, rolling terrain and spectacular views at every turn! Grey Highlands is truly a cyclist’s paradise!
This event is sanctioned by Ontario Cycling, and is limited to 500 riders, so register early! Enjoy a great day on the bike and help raise funds to equip the new Markdale Hospital.

Breve Fondo 26k
Our 26k Breve Fondo Route gives riders a wee taste of Grey Highlands cycling! The Breve leaves Markdale via Grey Road 12. After a right turn onto Grey Road 30, the route heads east and continues onto Bowles Bluff Road. The Breve continues south on Grey Road 30 to East Back Line, returning north through beautiful rolling farmland. A left turn onto Grey Road 12 returns riders to the Start/Finish area. An Aid Station is located at the 10k mark.

Medio Fondo 77k
Our 77k Medio Fondo heads east of Markdale via Grey Rd 12, then turns left at Goring continuing west on SR22A. A right turn on the Euphrasia-Holland Townline brings riders north into Walter’s Falls. The route continues on SR29 down through Bognor to Grey Rd 18. Riders head east via the Gerald Shortt Parkway and SR10 to Grey Road 12. Turning right, riders climb Scotch Mountain. Arriving at Temple Hill, riders turn left onto Grey Road 32, then right onto the 7th Line at Rocklyn. The route heads south on 7th line to Grey Rd 30 where you will travel west to Grey Rd 12 then back to Markdale and the Start/Finish area. Aid Stations are located at the Walter’s Falls Community Centre: 25k and near Temple Hill: 50k.

Gran Fondo 122k
Our 122k Gran Fondo route is shared with the Medio Fondo through Walter’s Falls. The Gran route continues west and south on Hamill Road, turning right onto Grey Rd. 40. After a fast descent, the route turns right onto Concession 3A proceeding north to Grey Rd. 18. Turning right, riders follow Grey Rd. 18 and Gerald Shortt Parkway until Grey Rd. 12. The route then turns south and east towards Meaford on Grey Rd. 12 – turning right onto the 7th Line. The ride continues south for 10km, turning left onto the Euphrasia/St. Vincent Townline. The ride continues right on Grey Rd. 7 to Sideroad 22b where it turns right to Rocklyn, then south again at Rocklyn on the 7th Line. The Gran finishes via the 27k Breve route. Aid Stations are located at Walter’s Falls Community Centre: 25k, Riverside Centre: 74k, and Vandeleur Park: 105k.

KOM/QOM Challenge!
Be crowned Grey Highlands Gran Fondo King or Queen of the Mountain for a whole year! Paid and free Strava subscribers riding our Medio or Gran Fondo routes will receive a segment time on Strava’s Grey Road 12 Climb or Ward’s Hill segments if ride data is uploaded. Segment times for the day will be reviewed at 2:00 pm on the day of the Gran Fondo. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male (KOM) and fastest female (QOM) for each segment. In the unlikely event of a tie, KOM/QOM will be awarded to the older participant. Winners will be posted to the website following the Gran Fondo.
